Albion assistant groundsman earns role

In the week when the nation has been celebrating Apprenticeships, Burton Albion Football Club has announced that Assistant Groundsman Nick George has been offered a full-time role at the Club after successfully completing an apprenticeship with the football club.

20-year-old Nick has been learning his trade under the stewardship of Head Groundsman Simon Marshall at the Pirelli Stadium since November 2012.

The full-time role has involved all major pitch work at the Pirelli Stadium such as pre-match pitch preparation and maintenance.

Nick follows in the footsteps of Reece Venning who also obtained a full-time role in the industry after completing an apprenticeship with the Club.

Reece now works at England training centre St George’s Park in Burton-upon-Trent.

Nick is one of eight apprentices who are currently employed with Burton Albion and the Burton Albion Community Trust in a variety of different roles across the business.

The club provides various roles within the football club and is committed to guiding and supporting young people into the world of work.

Chairman Ben Robinson, said: “The club is proud to be to provide a platform for young people to work and learn the skills required to make that first step into the world of work.

“We have seen many talented young people come through at Burton Albion in different roles and Nick now has a starting base to develop the skills he has been learning since he has been at the Club.”
