Knowles: We need to push on

Striker urges team-mates ahead of Oxford trip

Burton Albion striker Dominic Knowles wants to build on last weekend’s win over Accrington when the Brewers take on Oxford tomorrow.

The trip sees fourth-placed Burton travel to Oxford in fifth in one of the division’s games of the day, and Knowles is hoping for an extended run in the side after starting last weekend.

“It’s a very big game. We come in off the back of the Accrington which was a good result. We need to push on now with Oxford being close to us so if we can get a result against them it can be a massive three points.

“We want to get as far as we can from the teams below us, and try and make up some ground on those above us,” said Knowles.

Knowles has struggled for a run in the team recently, but hopes his 70 minute spell against Accrington last weekend will give him more opportunities until the end of the season

“The lads ahead of me are all really good players, so it’s tough to cement a place, but I need to keep working hard as I have been and try and make the place my own.

"I thought I worked hard and did what the gaffer wanted me to do. It’s quite hard when you don’t play to get into the game as you haven’t played in such a long time. I thought I did alright and hopefully I get another game this weekend,” Knowles said.

Despite not starting, Knowles understands his role and is prepared to wait for a chance to prove himself.

“It’s frustrating, but that’s part of being in a team. You get your chances so when you’re called upon you need to do your own bit.”
