Lainton: We don't fear anyone

Goalkeeper looking forward to Kassam Stadium clash

Burton Albion goalkeeper Rob Lainton is relishing the chance to get a big result when the Brewers travel to Oxford United tomorrow.

With Albion taking on a promotion rival at the Kassam Stadium, Lainton says these are the games everyone wants to be involved in.

“I came out on loan from Bury to play games, and especially in these sorts of games. Every point is massive at this stage of the season and we need to do everything to pick those points up.

“We need to build on last week. We don’t fear anyone in this division and Oxford are in a similar position to us looking for promotion,” said Lainton.

With the Brewers on the tails of the top three teams, Lainton wants to keep the pressure on and mount a late challenge for automatic promotion.

“It’s one of those six-pointers. If you win it puts some daylight between us and the rest of the sides in the play-offs. If you win it puts you up there with the three sides in the automatic promotion spots and for us, it’s about chasing those teams and creeping into those automatic places,” Lainton said.

Lainton knows that every point at this stage of the season is vital, and has emphasised the importance of good form when going for promotion.

“When you get to within 12 games of the end of the season, it’s all about winning and picking up points wherever you can. If we win say, eight or ten games then we’re looking at automatic promotion, and that isn’t an unrealistic target for us.

“Some of the other sides at the top have struggled for form recently, so this would be a great time for us to go on a bit of a run and sneak up at the right time. Even if we made the play-offs then form is important and could be the difference when it matters most.”
