Phillips: Playing to our strengths

Brewers midfielder confident ahead of Pompey clash

Burton Albion winger Jimmy Phillips is confident of adding to Saturday’s win at Oxford when the Brewers take on Portsmouth tomorrow night.

Albion travel to the South Coast on the back of two excellent victories, and Phillips prefers having a quick run of games to keep momentum.

“Personally, I feel it’s always nice to have a run of games to get the momentum going. We’ve won the last two now and with another game straight away we can keep the run going.

“Everyone in this division can beat anyone on their day. We have to approach the game as if they’re up there and fighting for every point. It’s going to be a difficult place to go as it’s a big club and it will be a tough game but hopefully we’ll get what we need.

“The size of the club at Portsmouth doesn't faze us. Obviously we’re aware of their stature as a big club, but I know we can win if we play to our strengths, and I’m really confident that we can go there and win,” said Phillips.

Whilst the Brewers’ form has picked up recently, Phillips has been one of Albion’s key players, and he wants to keep his own form up to benefit the team.

“I‘ve had a good run of games this season, and I want to show what I can do in every game. It’s all about keeping a level of consistency in every game, which will hopefully get the team the promotion we’re looking for,” he added.

With the other sides at the top dropping points at the weekend, Phillips claims the win at Oxford is even more significant, and wants the Brewers to continue to capitalise.

“It’s an even bigger three points than we first thought. At this stage of the season there will be days where results go your way and some where they don’t.

“We took advantage when they went our way at the weekend and we need to make sure we keep doing that.”
