TAFT: A CLUB ON THE UP

30 May 2014

New signing gives first interview

New Burton Albion defender George Taft is already looking forward to settling in and helping the Brewers to promotion next season.

Taft signed on Friday to become Gary Rowett’s first new addition of the summer, and says the he wants to repay the manager’s faith this season.

“I signed today and I’m delighted to be here,” said Taft

“I had a few clubs knocking on the door with interest, and once I weighed it up I felt this was the kind of club where I could develop.

“I think Gary (Rowett) is a good manager who will help me push forward, and the experience of the other lads at centre half is something I can learn from and I feel like being at Burton will push me forward in my career.

“I want to learn from them, but I want to play at the same time. I’ll try my hardest to get in the team but I also want to learn from both them and Gary,” he said.

Taft has been keeping an eye on the Brewers of late, attending Monday’s play-off final, and says he wants to help the club move forward whilst becoming a better player himself.

“I was at the play-off game, as well as some other games this year and I’ve been impressed. I feel like it’s a club that is moving forward, deserves to move forward and I want to be part of that.

“I feel that now I’m getting a bit older now, and I need first-team football to better myself.

“I want to play games, get experience here and learn the game more.

“I’ve got an aerial threat in both boxes, and set pieces are a big part of the game nowadays, so I hope I can impact and help the lads.”
