Brewers shocked by sudden death of Lydia Bennett

Burton Albion and Burton Albion Ladies are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ladies' player Lydia Bennett.

As well as playing for Burton Albion Ladies, Lydia was up until very recently part of the Burton Albion Community Trust's Girls' Football and Education programme, run in partnership with Burton and South Derbyshire College.

Lydia, 17, was a very popular and proud member of Burton Albion and her family, teammates and coaching staff will be supported through this difficult period.

Adam Smallman, Head of football at Burton Ladies FC, said “"Everyone at Burton Albion Ladies are saddened by the news of the loss of Lydia. Her love for football and her friendly character will be sadly missed by everyone around the club but she will not be forgotten. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends at this tragic time".

Nicola Mellor, Female football lead at Burton Albion Community Trust added “Lydia was a very bubbly person who was adored by every member of the girls football and education programme. Lydia always put 100% effort into everything she did with the club.”

The thoughts of the whole Brewers family are with Lydia's family and friends at this sad time.
