HASSELBAINK HAS GOT BIG PLANS FOR MARK DUFFY

28 August 2015

Mark Duffy joined Burton Albion on loan in early July.

The 29-year-old was struggling to break into the first team at his parent Club Birmingham City before being shipped out on loan to Chesterfield where his chances were limited due to injury.

Hasselbaink was keen to bring the Liverpudlian to the Pirelli Stadium knowing about his potential.

Duffy opened his account in the penultimate home pre-season game against Premier League Leicester City right on 90 minutes as he picked the ball up on the edge of the box before curling it past the rooted Kasper Schmeichel.

“Duffy needed the goal to show the belief a little bit more.” Hasselbaink said.

“He can do a lot more. We have got big plans for him.”

“He is a very technical player who is getting fitter and fitter.”

“We need a bit more aggressiveness in him, off the ball.”

Duffy has only made four appearances for Birmingham City since signing a two-year contract with the Blues back in June 2014.

“He hasn’t played much for Birmingham so we have to get him where we want him to be.

“We do that by working him as much ad as hard as possible but we have to let him believe and encourage him.”
