HASSELBAINK "I CHANGED THE TEAM BECAUSE I TRUST THEM"

26 August 2015

After a 'sloppy' victory on Saturday, Hasselbaink was looking for a reaction last night against one of his former sides.

"We had some honest words after Saturday and also on Monday.

"We always reflect back, winning or losing. We always talk as a group and Tuesday was very good. We looked organised and together."

Despite not picking up the result to put them in the hat for the third round of the Capital One Cup, the Dutchman was happy with his side to bounce back with a good performance.

"We had our discipline and we looked good. We made it difficult and we worked with the ball and looked more compact."

"We didn't look out of place and that is compliment to the boys."

Eight changes were made to the side that faces Peterborough at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday but the squad didn't look out of place.

"I made changes against Bolton as well as last night." Said Hasselbaink

"It was more trying to show everybody else what we have got. Players are challenging for the starting 11, do you want to make that shirt yours?

"Some have shown me that they really want it and that they deserve a chance."

Added depth is something Hasselabink has brought to the Pirelli Stadium so far this season with more or less every position having the right kind of cover which in the manager's eyes, is a good thing.

"I made the changes because I trust them. I thought my team could have made an upset, and we nearly did.

"We were fit enough for extra time and that is because we work so hard. The players will recover today and have their normal day off tomorrow."
