HOME WIN SO IMPORTANT FOR BREWERS

8 August 2015

BREWERS manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was delighted to get the League One season off to a winning start.

He said: "I was pleased with the application, the discipline. Scunthorpe are a good side, let's nor forget that.

"At the end we looked the stronger team. The last five minutes I thought we had another gear and that is needed.

"It was difficult and it was always going to be an afternoon when we had to defend well and at times we did.

I must say that in the first half we had the two best chances - but they had chances as well.

Hasselbaink also praised Stuart Beavon, who bagged Albion's first ever League One goal.

He made a goal from nothing. He keeps on going. He's not nice to play against and he's always waiting for that opportunity.

Hasselbaink was disappointed with conceding a late goal however.

"It was important to get that clean sheet but we conceded from a corner and I don't like conceding from corners."

But Albion have more to offer, the manager says.

"We are not the finished product, we are still a work in progress but we have made a very good start and that's what you need and we need to keep progressing."
