CLOUGH SAYS BLACKPOOL WILL HAVE A STRONG SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON

30 December 2015

NIGEL Clough has warned his players not to underestimate Blackpool on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors arrive at the Pirelli off the back of a 4-2 defeat against Barnsley but Clough expects them to try and put that right.

He says: “People look at them in the table and see they are low down but apart from Saturday’s defeat, they had three straight wins without conceding a goal.

“In those games, they beat Port Vale, Wigan and Peterborough. The latter two you would be expecting to finish in the top six, so we have to be up for the challenge.

“They’ve shown real signs of improvement and I am sure that they will be looking to put another little run together starting against us Saturday. They have a strong squad and Neil McDonald is doing a brilliant job in keeping them afloat at the moment in not easy off the field circumstances.”

Clough says he’s not surprised that the respective clubs fortunes have changed dramatically in recent years.

He says: “It can only happen in a sport like football, people forget that they were in the Premier League not so long ago and that we were in the Conference,

“The problem that they face is that their squad is being overhauled at the end of each season due to their situation, which then means their new players are always going to need time to gel but I can certainly see them having a strong second half to the season.”
