If you watched the highlights from our away win at Gillingham, you’ll see that Anthony O’Connor did in fact pinch Tom Naylor’s goal right at the death as he steered it home in added time.
The replays appear to show Naylor running off to celebrate ‘his’ goal before showing the rest of the team following O’Connor celebrating the actual goal. This is what Tom Naylor said about the celebration antics: “I knew Anthony had touched the ball.
“People are saying I celebrated because I scored but I didn’t, I thought Anthony was going to come round the goal and celebrate with me but he went round the other side.
“I knew it was going in but Anto (O’Connor) put his foot on it.”
Controversy still surrounds the goal in which he netted in front of the home fans at the Pirelli Stadium against Colchester. Many are saying it was an own-goal but it has in fact been penned down at Tom Naylor’s goal.
“I touched the ball but I don’t think it was going into the bottom corner but as long as my name is on the score sheet I’m not bothered,” said Tom Naylor.
