MANAGER'S VERDICT: SWINDON

28 December 2015

BURTON Albion manager Nigel Clough praised keeper Jon McLaughlin for the important saves that helped earn Albion a 1-0 win over Swindon.

The Brewers boss said: "It was an excellent win. Very hard fought and over the course of the game Jon McLaughlin made a couple of magnificent saves - but we made enough chances to win two or three games today.

"I looked up at the clock and after seven minutes we had created three good chances but hadn’t put one of them away. If you do get that early goal and then Swindon have a bit of possession you are not so concerned about it. When you are ahead you can approach the game differently. We  got a quick start in the first ten minutes but didn’t score the goal.

"Our decision-making in the final third let us down. We got into brilliant situations but didn’t turn them into chances and work the keeper enough.

"Nasser was as guilty as anyone of that and he’s come off as frustrated as anybody that he didn’t get shots off as he could have had a hat-trick.

"But Stuart Beavon chased a lost cause, harried the defender into making a  mistake, we got the penalty and won 1-0."
