“Team spirit is very important"A stirring second half comeback from the Brewers extended their unbeaten run to thirteen games as they came from a goal behind to sweep away Dagenham & Redbridge with three late goals and record a first win at Victoria Road in twelve years.
“Team spirit is very important to have but I must say we looked in control even before they scored.” Hasselbaink told us.
“It was only a matter of time before we were going to score so I was happy before they scored.”
The Brewers seemed to be on top for majority of the game despite the score line being 0-0 at half-time. A slip from Damien McCrory gifted Alex Jakubiak the opportunity to put the Daggers ahead, and he did just that on 67 minutes.
Hasselbaink understands that there is a chance that the other team will be on top if you don’t capitalise however he was happy with his team’s reaction.
“Obviously there is always a chance when you are on top and you don’t score that the other team might score but I was happy that we had a reaction and it was the right reaction.”
Hasselbaink then went on to add that his team’s reaction wasn’t unorganised. He explained that the boys were still disciplined, they believed in what they were doing and they stuck to the gane plan despite being a goal down away from home.
“The reaction wasn’t everybody running around and trying to score, it was still disciplined and they believed in what they were doing.
“We stuck to the game plan and moved the ball and created chances.”
The high intensity football and the goal so soon after conceding were the main reasons the Brewers sprung a comeback to put three past the in-form Dagenham & Redbridge. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was very happy with the overall performance, especially the determination of his players.
“The intensity was high and obviously you still have to score but I was happy with the overall performance.
“I was happy with the reaction because you need that kind of determination which I was happy with.”
