HASSELBAINK KNOWS WHAT LEVEL HE WANTS HIS TEAM TO PLAY AT

20 July 2015

The first home pre-season fixture of the campaign was against Championship opposition in Wolverhampton Wanderers which ended in a 1-0 defeat.

Despite the opposition being play-off contenders in the league above, Hasselbaink was pleased with his side’s performance but insists they can still do more with the ball.

“First half we started well but after that we just backed off. Second half our organisation was a lot better.

“We could have been a little bit more positive with the ball.

“We trained very hard for both of the two days leading up to Wolves so it was always going to be a challenge, mentally against better opposition. We can be more aggressive in the right way.”

Chances weren’t limited throughout the whole game with both sides having more than enough chances to score, which you do of course expect in a pre-season friendly.

“We want to play on the front foot. If you play like this then you will have more chances.

“We played like that in patches against Wolves but we need to show that for 96 minutes.”

“Wolves are a good team. I expect that they will be challenging in the Championship next year.

“It is good to see what kind of level we want to be and want to get to. It was a good test for us.”
