KEEPER LOOKS FORWARD TO LEAGUE ONE FOOTBALL

14 July 2015

BREWERS keeper Jon McLaughlin is relishing the prospect of being back in League One football after being part of the Bradford side that won promotion and re-established itself at the higher level.

He says: “It’s great to move back up. People do question your decision when you leave a club like that and take what they like to think of as a step back down. But it was great move coming here. I knew from day one I had made the right decision.

“It was a fantastic season for us and we did incredible things. It was a real feather in our caps to have winners’ medals around our necks at the end, not just promotion. Being champions of a league is a very difficult thing to do. It was fantastic.

“We enjoyed our summer break but it was exciting for everyone to be back in and relishing the opportunity to play in a new league.

“Now we want to move on, build on what we did last year, take that confidence, that winning mentality and see how far that can takes us.

“Other teams have done it before and there’s no reason why we can’t do it as well. We are a very talented squad.”

McLaughlin was the first player to pen a new deal, re-committing to the club straight away.

He says: “They came to me really early. The manager made it clear he wanted me to stay which is always nice to hear.

“It was great when a manager like Gary Rowett came to me in the first place and pushed to get me to come to the club and made me feel that he thought I could really add to his squad. Then to have made a good impact on a new manager like the gaffer was brilliant.

“It was great that he came to me so early on. It was an easy decision to make and it was sorted in a couple of days.”
