WEIR "WE HELD OUR OWN AND HAD A PLACE"

20 July 2015

In what was the first home pre-season of 2015/16, Burton Albion narrowly missed out on a draw as Wolverhampton Wanderers scraped a 1-0 victory at the Pirelli Stadium.

The Championship side fielded a strong side with a wealth of experience. Ex-Sunderland man Robbie Weir started, and finished the fixture in the heart of the midfield for the Brewers and he insisted that the Brewer weren’t a million miles off.

“I think these preseason games are all about getting fit. There’s obviously things we still need to work on.

“I think overall we’ve done well as this year they will be one of the top championship sides, so we were not a million miles off we had a few chances in the second half, so we will take the positives out of it.

“It was a good work out there was good passages of play, so yeah we are building up.”

With a full strength side including ex-Arsenal man Benik Afobe, it seemed as though the Brewers played well to keep out one of the top Championship sides.

Robbie Weir said “Yes like I said you’ve seen some of the players worked hard out there.

“Connor Coady was two million that they bought in the summer, that’s the type of players they are attracting.

“We had competition out there with them today, we held our own and had a place and like I said we were not a million miles away and we are building confidence and we will look forward to next week.”
