Burton Albion have secured their third new signing of the close season after Stevenage defender Darius Charles agreed a one -year deal.

Charles has spent the last five seasons at Stevenage notching up more than 140 Football League appearances, mostly playing in League One.

He is primarily known as a centre back but the former Brentford trainee is a versatile player who has played at left back, in midfield and as a striker during his career.

The 27-year -old played a major part in Stevenage gaining promotion to League One placing the pass that led to the only goal of the 2011 play off final - scored by Brewers skipper John Mousinho.

Mousinho isn't the only familiar face for Charles at the Pirelli Stadium.

Lucas Akins and Phil Edwards also played with him at Broadhall Way.

Charles joins Callum Reilly and Calum Butcher, captured from Birmingham City and Dundee United respectively, as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink builds his squad for Albion's debut season in League One.
