NASSER: "TO WORK AGAIN WITH HASSELBAINK IS IMPORTANT FOR ME"

26 June 2015

NASSER El Khayati has signed a deal that will keep him at the Pirelli Stadium for the next two years.

The striker was signed by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink from Dutch side Kozzaken Boys in January.

El Khayati said “I have signed a new two year deal.

“I am very happy to be here for another two years.

“To work again with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is important for me. He was one of the reasons to stay here.”

Nasser was one of several Dutch players Hasselbaink acquired during his first transfer window and he took League 2 by storm. He had an increasing impact as the season progressed and made 18 appearances as Albion secured the League Two title.

“Everybody knows that I came in in the middle of the season and I needed only one or two weeks to get settled on and off the pitch and it was all because of the gaffer and the coaches who help me.

“He speaks with me off the pitch as well which is really important for me.”

For the first time in the 65-year history, Burton Albion will play in the third tier of English football after picking up the League 2 title last season. El Khayati is determined to kick on and do what he did last season, but even better.

El Khayati also had an eye for a crucial goal, including nabbing the 89th minute winner as ten-man Albion saw off promotion rivals Southend at the Pirelli Stadium in March.

“For me the most important thing is to perform again even when it is a level higher.

“I have the ambition to play higher. The next step is League 1 and I have to do it again, even better.”
