HASSELBAINK REFLECTS ON FIRST YEAR IN CHARGE

16 November 2015

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink says it has been an "amazing first year" as Burton Albion manager.

The Gaffer's first game was away at Wycombe Wanderers on November 17, 2014, securing an impressive 3-1 win at the home of the promotion challengers.

It started what Hasselbaink says has been a great 12 months.

"My enjoyment has been great. I remember the job coming up, me applying, speaking to the chairman and coming to the ground. I had a meeting with the chairman in the boardroom and after driving away I called David (Oldfield) and met up with him at Heathrow and I told him hopefully I was going to get the job and I wanted him to come. We talked about what we would do.

"I said 'I think we can be successful, we can get Burton Albion promoted with the right philosophy. We can do this.'

"We came in the first day and put that into place.

"But what has happened we couldn’t have imagined, how the players have adapted, how the public has been so positive to us, so welcome. We have been made to feel really at home and things have been magnificent.

"We couldn’t really ask for much more, only for it to continue – to keep building, improving, entertaining and getting that support. Without that support we are going nowhere. The boys need that - it helps them perform.

"It has been amazing so far but I want it to go further."
