The Burton and District Stroke (BDSC) club held a collection around the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday 24th October against Port Vale. The collection saw fans of Burton Albion and Port Vale raise over £500 for the charity!
BDSC is a purely social club which offers support through a social setting for the stroke affected and their carer’s. This year they have celebrated their 40th anniversary, making them the longest running stroke club throughout the UK.
In 2014 they were recognised for their work at the Life after Stroke awards where they were named the Stroke Club of the year at a star studded award ceremony at The Dorchester hotel in London.
The club meets on a fortnightly basis at the Waterside community centre, where they enjoy a variety of entertainment. Through the year they also hold regular outings which this year has included a visit to the Southport Flower show.
This year also saw them enjoy their 19th annual holiday, when they visited Ilfracombe. Throughout the week they all had great fun and enjoyed such outings as a trip to a vintage fairground where they all enjoyed the rides and even took on the Dodgems.
As a local club, with no outside funding, they constantly need the help and support of people in the local community to allow them to continue with their work, and thank everyone at Burton Albion and all their supporters for giving them the opportunity to get better known throughout the town and ensure peoples understanding of Stroke continues.
