GAFFER PRAISES HIS TEAM FOR KEEPING UP WITH BIG BOYS IN LEAGUE ONE

26 October 2015

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink paid tribute to his squad after the 2-0 victory over Port Vale for the "incredible" start the Brewers have made to the League One campaign.

He said: "At the moment what we are doing is incredible. We all know how things are here so to be able to compete with the bigger boys in the league is very rewarding.

"We will keep on going and we will keep on fighting and we have to give credit to the players. The effort and commitment and the way they are playing is very good.

"If you think no team will have difficult weeks in this division you are wrong. It is small mragins. We are competing with the Sheffield Uniteds and Wigans and Coventrys. Coventry just got Joe Cole - that is what we are competing with.

"But we are competing and doing it our way and I'm happy with that and the spirit here. We have to keep that going, not have that attitude that we are there. We are never there. We keep on going."

The win keeps Albion in the top three, back to winning ways and scoring again.

Hasselbaink says: "It was a very big win as we had to use the squad. We lost Beavon, one of our main strikers because I can't risk him because I can't afford to lose him for six or eight weeks.  McCrory two days ago was sick and we couldn't risk him. So we had to trust our squad.

"The boys who came in and who came on as substitutes did exceptionally well. Se will need that as it will be a squad effort.

"The win against Port Vale is now in the past and we forget about it and start preparing again and we keep on going like that."

Hasselbaink had no issues with the red card for midfielder Robbie Weir

He said: "Robbie was a little bit over the edge and I have no complaints. We move on."
