MANAGER'S VERDICT: SOUTHEND

3 October 2015

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was pleased with a "battling" performance that earned his team a 1-0 win.

He said: "It was not a classic game where you would say 'wow'. It was a difficult one.

"It had to be about battling, digging deep and being organised. We had to defend a lot of set pieces and long balls but did that well."

The Brewers edged it through a deflected Tom Naylor goal.

Hasselbaink said: "We were fortunate with the goal but if you don't keep knocking on the door you are not going to get it.

"After the goal, we made a mistake and our goalkeeper had to make a good save and they may be feeling hard done by in the end.

"But we battled like them and it was a very good win. There are all types of games and you need to be successful in games like these."
