MIKE WHITLOW PRAISES HIS SIDE FOR CREATING CHANCES AGAINST MANSFIELD

19 October 2015

Mike Whitlow on: Under 18’s Mansfield defeat

Burton Albion under 18s fell to a third consecutive defeat, in all competitions, as they were beaten 3-0 by the visiting Mansfield Town.

The Brewers saw their unbeaten league record come to an end at Hartlepool last Saturday and they were unable to bounce back against The Stags. Despite the disappointment, head of youth development Mike Whitlow saw positives, albeit a touch of misfortune.

“Tom Hammerton played very well in centre midfield again, Joe Sbarra played well, we created chances through him and Jayden Cotterill defended very well second half.

“It sounds daft, the opening goal was a thirty yard stunner and the third was an own goal after the ball bobbled over the keeper’s foot, there wasn’t much in the game,”

Whitlow has disappointed with some elements of his side’s performance, but admitted that Mansfield simply stuck to their game plan well.

“Their two centre forwards caused our centre halves a lot of problems today, they put us under pressure and their second came from us trying to play it out across the back. It was a disappointing outcome in that Mansfield played to their strengths with the two front lads.

“We had spells but not for long, it will need to be better looking forward,”

The Brewers will now host York next Saturday as they look to respond to their recent lull.
