MIKE WHITLOW PROVIDES AN UPDATE ON ACADEMY VACANCY

27 October 2015

Mike Whitlow provides an update on academy managerial vacancy.

Mike Whitlow has moved to provide clarity regarding the current under 18s managerial vacancy.

The under 18s are currently without a full time manager following the departure of former Derby County coach Lee Glover to Coventry City. Glover had barely been in the job a month when a move to the Ricoh Arena, to work with their under 21s, became available and Whitlow says the club is confident that they will replace him soon.

“There has been an advert going out, hopefully something by the first week in November. There has been plenty of applicants for it.

“I would like someone now who will be here for two or three years so that these lads get a bit of consistency and so they know that they will be working with a coach, taking them forward, over a long period of time.

“It is a good club at the moment, why wouldn’t you want to be a part Burton Albion?”

The situation has seen Whitlow himself take a more hands on approach on recent match days, even being in the dugout for the game away at Hartlepool, but he admits that it is not something he is looking to continue.

“We cannot do it; we have to have someone in the manager’s position,”

Despite Glover’s sudden departure, Whitlow insists he is thankful for Glover’s time as boss.

“We wish Lee well, with the under 21s, he was excellent and it was a shame because I appreciated his time but I also know that the under 21s is where he wanted to be,”
