Team News

DARIUS CHARLES and ZELI ISMAIL will definitely miss the fixture through injury as Charles recovers from a broken leg whilst Ismail is suffering with a knee injury.

ZELI ISMAIL has been out since pre-season where he collided with the post in a home friendly fixture with Leicester City and has struggled to recover ever since. He has been training with the group for a couple of weeks now and he is looking nearer a return.

CALLUM REILLY has picked up a groin injury which has kept him out of the past couple of matches and he went for a scan on Monday. There is not an indication on how long the midfielder will be out for.

SHANE CANSDELL-SHERRIFF is fit and ready for selection after a couple of games out with illness.

The Brewers could line up unchanged from the team that drew with Sheffield United on Tuesday although Cansdell-Sherriff and El Khayati could return to the starting XI.

One To Watch

Ben Coker

Coker has been with the Shrimpers since 2013 after joining from Histon where he made 14 appearances.

The 26-year-old defender has spent most of his time playing at left-back but he has also enjoyed periods on the wing in some cases.

He has made 77 appearances for Southend to date scoring three goals in the process.

Ben Coker was a major reason why the Shrimpers earned promotion last season via the playoffs with a penalty shootout win. He has already made three assists for Southend this season.

He signed a new two-year deal in April 2014 which will keep him contracted until the summer of 2016.

Manager’s Thoughts

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink:

"We may have to approach it and play a little bit differently, but that brings beautiful challenges.

"They approach the game differently to Sheffield United, putting lots of crosses from deep areas into the box.

"They have a lot of long throws and two quite big strikers up front, who like the physical part of the game.

"They commit a lot from set-pieces so from that aspect, it'll be a different game.

"We have to cope with that, find our way of playing and try to hurt them."

Player’s Thoughts

Jerome Binnom-Williams:

"There's definitely something to prove as I want to show them what I've got.

"The last couple of months there wasn't too good for me as I didn't get too much game time.

"So I've got to show them what they're missing.

"They're a good footballing side but when you have to go long, you go long.

"They'll have changed from last season but they're doing well.

"They got three points on Tuesday night against Crewe so it won't be an easy game for us.

"They'll want to prove a point, coming up from League Two like us."
