WHITLOW PRAISES CLUB'S STANCE ON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

29 October 2015

Academy boss praises club’s stance on youth development.

Burton Albion head of youth development Mike Whitlow has said that he is delighted by the support that he and the rest of the youth academy are getting from the club.

“The chairman and everyone in the club have been fantastic with me since I walked in the building, Andy Taylor and the community staff cannot do enough for us in the academy.

“The club is a family based and they care, and these young lads know that the football club cares about them which is always a good start. We have to make sure that everyone outside the club knows that Burton Albion is a family club because it is going brilliantly at the moment,”

The academy has started to become more integrated within the club recently; three recent scholars were even introduced in front of the Pirelli stadium crowd during the fixture against Crewe and Whitlow has stressed the importance of the club’s youth system.

“It is important that the club embraces young lads because you never know where they can go. They want to be on that Pirelli stadium pitch, they want a professional contract and they want the opportunity,”

The club will soon be hoping to announce a new under 18s manager to replace Lee Glover as they look to kick on with their season following a poor run of form that ended with a 2-0 win over York on Saturday.
