MATCH PREVIEW vs Chesterfield

The Brewers go in to the weekend’s fixture away at Chesterfield off the back of back-to-back victories against Rochdale and Swindon Town. A first half goal from Stuart Beavon gave the Albion all three points at the County Ground to lift them to the top of the table.

Team News

DARIUS CHARLES and ZELI ISMAIL will definitely miss the fixture through injury as Charles recovers from a broken leg whilst Ismail is suffering with a knee injury.

ZELI ISMAIL has been out since pre-season where he collided with the post in a home friendly fixture with Leicester City and has struggled to recover ever since.  He has recently started training with the group.

STUART BEAVON took a knock towards the latter stages of the game at Swindon but he has confirmed that his back is OK and he is fit to play.

BINNOM-WILLIAMS had a throat infection which forced him to come off in the first half against Swindon. He has trained all week and will be fit for Saturday.

The Brewers could line up unchanged from the team that beat Swindon on Saturday although Naylor and El Khayati could return to the starting XI. Callum Reilly could return to the bench after missing out against Rochdale and Swindon.

One To Watch

Jay O’Shea

The ex-Birmingham City man has played a key part to Chesterfield’s attacking style of play bother under Paul Cook and Dean Saunders.

He subsequently joined Birmingham City in August 2009 for an undisclosed fee, and made his Premier League debut shortly after against Manchester United. However, he found first-team opportunities hard to come by during his first season at Birmingham, and was loaned out to Middlesbrough in March 2010.

He has scored 24 goals in 114 appearances since 2013 for the Spireites and he is certainly an attacking treat to watch going forward.

Manager’s Thoughts

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink:

“Chesterfield are a good team.

“They have got some good individual players in the wide areas.

“They try to pass the ball from the back and try to get an overload in the middle of the field.

“They have done really well last year coming up from league two.

“It is going to be a challenge for us again but all games are difficult in their own right.”

Player’s Thoughts

Phil Edwards:

“I think Chesterfield will come for us.

“They got beat at the weekend so they will be looking to bounce back.

“They will come at us but we just have to be resolute.

“We will work on the training pitch and see where we can get at them and try to capitalise on that and hopefully come away with a positive result.”
