HASSELBAINK "VERY HAPPY" WITH HIS SIDES VICTORY AT SWINDON

21 September 2015

We spoke to a very happy Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after his side picked up all three points at the County Ground after a 1-0 victory over Swindon Town.

Hasselbaink named an unchanged side for the first time this season and it seemed to pay off after a Stuart Beavon goal in the 27th minute sealed the victory and earned the Brewers a top spot in Sky Bet League One.

“I am very happy.” Said Hasselbaink.

“When you come to Swindon you know what they are about. They can keep the ball for fun and test your nerves. They can overload in certain areas but I think we made it very uncomfortable for them.

“We didn’t let them get into their stride or play their game. It was all about winning the ball back in their half and trey to penetrate in their last third and I think we did that very well.”

Swindon may have had more possession over the 90 minutes but on the whole, it way the away side Burton Albion that were deserved winners having a lot more chances than the Robins and the Brewers boss admits his side should have put away more goals.

“We should have scored more goals. We were thee against one and we should have punished. The lads know that but I must say I am extremely happy with how the team has worked.

“We were very solid and also with the ball we were quite creative. It is just the belief with what they can do with the ball. They can do a lot more than what they think.”

During the week, Hasselbaink explained that he was expecting a totally different game against Swindon than when they faced Rochdale at the Pirelli Stadium.

It certainly seemed that Swindon look to control games with the ball and the Brewers boss knew exactly what the opposition were all about.

“When you come to Swindon, if you think that you can match them with the ball then you’re crazy. That is what Swindon do very well.

“We needed to get them as much as possible without the ball. You will have spells in the game where you don’t have the ball and you have to be comfortable without it.

“At times we could have been more positive with the ball, especially going forward. There is work to be done in that area but when we did it, we looked very dangerous and we should have scored more.”
