MCCRORY HAILS A VITAL WIN FOR THE BREWERS

25 April 2016

DAMIEN McCrory says the players knew they needed a win against Colchester and were determined to get the three points.

The defender, who returned to the team on Saturday after shaking off injury, said the Brewers had been overdue a good win.

He said: "The last couple of games gave us something to build on and we took it into the Colchester game. We knew we had to win but not only that but the Walsall result went our way as well."

Despite the 3-0 scoreline, McCrory says that Colchester, who needed a win to avoid relegation, were tough opponents even after being reduced to 10 men.

He says: "We were playing better against 11 and when they went down to 10 we had a sticky patch.  If you ask anyone they will tell you that sometimes it's harder to play 10 men then 11. But credit to the boys, as we pressed them well in their own half, which we have been doing all season really.

"Fair play to Lucas for the hat-trick - three well taken goals. Ultimately, it could have been more but at the start of the day we would have taken that.

"I said a couple of weeks ago that we just needed a bit of luck and we got that today and after the first goal we dominated from there."
