ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

2 April 2016

NIGEL Clough made two changes to the team that lost 2-0 against Millwall on Monday night. In came Mason Bennett and Robbie Weir for Calum Butcher and Tom Naylor respectively.

Chris Neal in the Bury goal nearly gifted the Brewers an early goal. Lucas Akins picked up the ball in a wide area before cutting inside, twisting and turning past the defenders and firing a shot towards goal which Neal could only spill the ball into the path of Duffy who was so unlucky to have it intercepted right in front of him.

Burton really started on the front foot. Midfielder Hamza Choudhury, who was playing further forward, flashed a cross-come-shot across the face of goal which Mason Bennett attempted to touch home but he couldn't make any contact!

The away side were forced in to an early change midway through the first half as Joe Riley was replaced by Dan Gardner, an injury problem so it seemed.

It was a half in which the Brewers very much dominated but just couldn't find the final ball and the end product, but a goal looked likely going in to the break.

HT: Burton Albion 0-0 Bury

Bury made a change at the break as their skipper Tom Soares was replaced by striker Nathan Delfouneso.

It was a slow start for the Brewers in the second half as the substitute Delfouneso found himself in space six yards out from goal but Albion 'keeper McLaughlin was alert to it and blocked well.

The Brewers upped their game and with a change of formation a goal seemed to be just around the corner. Akins won the ball in the middle of the park before driving and a vulnerable Bury defence and curling a left-footed shot at Neal who parried into the path of Duffy but his shot was then caught by the Bury stopper - a good chance to go in front for Burton.

Another chance went begging and you started to think it was one of those afternoons for the Brewers. Bennett slipped it through to McCrory on the left who provided a great ball to the near post where Akins was the runner, just the slightest touch was needed but he didn't get it.

Right down the other end the Brewers were let right off the hook! Weir's tackle in the middle of the park put Delfouneso clean through on goal with just the 'keeper to beat but the on-loan striker couldn't find the target much to the home supporter's delight.

OFF: With 20 minutes to play the Leicester City-loanee Hamza Choudhury was shown his first red card in professional football. He had already picked up a yellow card in the second half for absoloutely nothing but the second tackle did actually warrant a yellow card which unfortunately for him accumulated to a red.

GOAL: That red card proved to be circuital as the away side went right down the other end and grabbed a goal. Sub Ryan Lowe got on the end with a great header back across the face of goal from Gardner's cross. 0-1

Nigel Clough made an attacking change with 15 minutes to go as right-back Phil Edwards made way for striker Tyler Walker.

Another change was made just a few minutes later as Robbie Weir was replaced by Calum Butcher.

GOAL: Two minutes into added time it was TYLER WALKER who netter his first ever Albion goal on his home debut to equalise! Akins made up some ground on the right before providing the cross for Walker who slotted home from close-range! 1-1
