CLOUGH LOOKS TO MAKE PROGRESS IN EFL CUP

10 August 2016

BURTON Albion take on Bury tonight in the EFL Cup with Nigel Clough looking to make progress at the League One club's expense.

The Brewers boss will make changes from the team that lost 4-3 at Nottingham Forest but will put out a team he believes can win tonight (kick off 7.30pm).

He said: "We want to win the game and get through but our focus has to be Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday next week (in the Championship). The league games are more important. Even the fact that it’s a Wednesday not a Tuesday means we have a day less rest before we play Bristol City.

“Bury have some experienced players who can cause you problems. They will be relishing coming here and they will be saying 'let’s go out and beat a Championship club'. That will be a change for us, other people seeing us as a scalp."

At least one change will be forced on Clough.

He said: “Lee Williamson is struggling with an ankle and we might not risk Ben Turner with his ankle problems so early in the season - everybody else will be in the squad.

“We want to try and win and whatever team we put out we will believe they can win the game. If it is after extra time and penalties we will take that rather than losing."
