JOHN BRAYFORD JOINS BURTON ALBION ON LOAN

19 August 2016

JOHN Brayford has joined Burton Albion on a season-long loan from Sheffield United.

The defender has represented Burton Albion during his youth career, picking up over 75 appearances for the Brewers before making his move to Crewe Alexandra.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent, the full back has also represented Derby County and Cardiff City.

Brayford will link up with Nigel Clough for the fourth time after previously playing under him at Burton (first spell), Derby County and Sheffield United.

He will wear the squad number 3 during his time at the Pirelli Stadium.

Nigel Clough said:“When we heard John was available it was a no-brainer to sign him.

“He can cover us anywhere along the back three and the wing-back positions as well so that’s the main reason we’ve brought him in and he’s a good experienced Championship player.

“It’s easy now to say we’re not too bad injury wise but we know when the season kicks in during September, October and around Christmas there’s a heavy workload of games so we need a good strong squad and he adds to that.

“He knows Ben Turner from Cardiff, he was good friends with him. He will know Nayls (Tom Naylor) and Stephen Bywater as well so it’s a bit like coming home for him.

“It’s a good opportunity for him to put himself in the shop window in the Championship again.”

John Brayford said:“It’s great, especially the rise of Burton who are now playing Championship football.

“It’s been ten years since I played here but they’ve still got the foundations of a great club and it’s nice to be back.

“The rise has been incredible and I don’t think there’s been another team that has done something on the same level.
