MCCRORY EXCITED ABOUT CLUBS CHAMPIONSHIP DEBUT

1 August 2016

Brewers defender Damien McCrory has spoke of his excitement ahead of Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

“The boys and I are very excited for the first game against Nottingham Forest, now all the friendlies are done we can all look forward to the game Saturday. We are confident we can go there and play our football and come back with a good result.

“With all the history of it being the sides first Championship match, its something everybody associated with the club will be looking forward to.

“The lads have been looking sharp in the last few weeks of pre-season. We felt like we matched Queens Park Rangers all over the pitch well and probably had the chances to win the game on Tuesday.

"Obviously we can’t read too much into it as it was a friendly but it was good to get a feel for it against Championship opposition.”

McCrory also enjoyed playing on the left side of a midfield three against Chester something the left back hasn’t done since he was a teenager.

“It was nice to play in a different position for a change, I haven’t played there since I was a midfielder at the age of sixteen. In midfield you get a lot more of the ball and of course I enjoy getting forward when I can.

“Pre-season is about trying these new systems out, trying players in different positions so the manager can see what he can work with ahead of the season.

“The boys will always give 110% with these systems, obviously some will be disappointed to miss out but it’s important that we all seize our opportunity when we cross the white line.

“We know there’s now lots of competition and some much needed Championship experience has been brought in, so we need to make sure we work hard as a team.

“It is vitally important that we continue our solidity going into this season.”
