DAMIEN McRORY SAYS BREWERS WILL TAKE CONFIDENCE INTO NEWCASTLE GAME

14 December 2016

Damien McCrory says that Burton Albion will take positives from their narrow 1-0 defeat to high-flying Huddersfield Town and head into their game against Newcastle United confident of an upset.

Despite dominating much of the game, the Brewers fell to a late Nahki Wells goal as they suffered their second consecutive defeat. McCrory, who was named man of the match for his performance against the Terriers, believes that Burton should feel good about their performance, and that they have enough quality to trouble the Championship’s top sides, especially at home.

“Tonight, we can take a lot of positives because Huddersfield are in the top four, they are a top side, they’ve been top of top of the table for most of the season so far, all we can do is take positives from that.

“They came here probably expecting to dominate possession and dominate the game and that totally did not happen tonight. I think that a lot of the top teams will come here expecting to do that, but I think that if we are at it and not letting them play, getting in their faces and then if we play when we get it, then I think that not many teams will fancy that when they come here.”

The Brewers’ next test comes in the form of Newcastle United, who will visit the Pirelli Stadium for the first time ever on Saturday. Defeat to Huddersfield leaves Burton in 21st place, just one above the drop zone, however Nigel Clough’s men have a two point advantage on Blackburn Rovers.
