NIGEL CLOUGH'S HUDDERSFIELD VERDICT

13 December 2016

NIGEL Clough said that his team deserved something out of the game and that the 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield was hard to take.

He said: "We deserved at least a point. I thought the players were magnificent tonight from start to finish. We played well, created chances and they pop up with one in the 86th minute. I thought it was very unjust.

"To stop a side of their quality from playing on the back of Saturday, I thought we were excellent to a man tonight.

"There are two things tonight, the performance and the result. We were unlucky not to get the result but we are certainly not disappointed with the performance.

"When you lose a game like that it's a different feeling to Saturday. When we play like that we can compete with most teams in the league,

"Jackson Irvine wore the captain's armband and he was excellent. Some people it affects when they get the armband for the first time, some it inspires and I thought it inspired him - he was magnificent.

"Damien McCrory was rightly man of the match - his heading and defending was very good indeed."
