BURTON Albion under 18s beat Lincoln City on Saturday in their final game of the year.
Goals from Max Smith, James Harrison and Reece Hutchinson secured a 3-1 win for Burton Albion under 18s away to Lincoln City, as the Brewers went second in the Youth Alliance League with victory.
The Brewers were much changed from their starting 11 in Thursday’s 4-1 FA Youth Cup third round defeat to Sunderland. Manager Sam Rose was pleased with his team’s reaction to the defeat, and felt that his team took positives from their performance against the higher division side into the Lincoln game.
“It was a fantastic reaction from losing a game, but in saying that, the performance against Sunderland was good in any case and they have carried that on.
“The team was very different to the team that played on Thursday, some of the boys that have been in and around the starting 11 got the chance to get some minutes today and I was really pleased with the way that everybody played and credit to them, it is just a really nice way to finish the year.
The Brewers finish the year in second place, four points behind leaders Mansfield but Burton do have a game in hand on the Stags. Their next Youth Alliance game comes on January the 13th when they host Grimsby Town, who Rose’s side beat 5-2 earlier in the season.
