NIGEL Clough praised a "gritty" performance from his team as Albion extended their lead in League One after a 1-0 win over Chesterfield.

Clough said: "The key was determination, grit and resolve. It wasn't pretty at times but it was very workmanlike

"We worked hard and got a clean sheet that was the most pleasing aspect of the night.

"There were a few nervous moments as we didn't see the game out very well. We made some poor decisions on the ball and gave it away too cheaply.

"We needed to get up the pitch a bit more and get that second goal. We didn't create too much tonight but they didn't either.

"we are seven points clear at the top. It's nice to play on Friday night and put pressure on the others."
