NIGEL Clough will face one of his former clubs tomorrow night in Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in a 7.45PM kick off.
Upon returning to Sheffield, Nigel Clough says he is looking forward to seeing some of the friends he made during his time there.
“I’m looking forward to seeing a couple of people,” said Clough.
“You make friends when you’re there and the atmosphere you get at Bramall Lane with the big cup games and everything was absolutely superb.
“You’re aware of it (atmosphere) from a distance but when you’re involved and you’re playing against Premier League teams at home, it’s special times.”
When Clough and his management team took over at Sheffield United in October 2013, the Sheffield United team were struggling towards the foot of the table but he soon pushed them up to the play-off places and earned his side a Wembley trip in the cup.
He said: “We thought we did well there considering where the team were when we went in.
“When you inherit a team that’s in the bottom few of League One and were struggling to win a game – we’re proud of it.”
The two sides have met four times, three in cup competitions and just the one meeting in the League which ended in a 0-0 draw earlier on in the season at the Pirelli Stadium.
“I think they drew them in the cup two years running so that’s a good thing that the lads will have played there (Bramall Lane) and will have experienced the atmosphere although it will be a little bit more intense tomorrow with it being a league game as opposed to an early League Cup game.
“I hope we can handle the atmosphere and I hope we can handle them.
“I think what they have done this season is similar to us, they have had a bad result and they have bounced back.
“They lost against Rochdale on Saturday so we will have to be aware of that.”
