ROSE: “THE MANAGER HAS BEEN VERY GOOD”

25 February 2016

Youth academy boss Sam Rose has praised Nigel Clough for his interaction with the youth academy following his re-appointment as first team manager.

Clough has tasted very little other than success since his return to the Pirelli, but Rose says this has not left him disillusioned when it comes to the club’s future prospects.

“I think he takes a keen interest in the youth academy, you have seen that at  the other clubs he has worked at, he watches youth games.

“We have been really impressed by the interest that he takes in it, the lads have had the opportunity to train with the first team, and obviously the lads have to be at the right standard first but when there are opportunities for the boys to train with the first team, play in reserve games and development games, those opportunities have been afforded to them, which is really positive.

“It’s what you run the youth academy for, so that those boys who are deemed at the required standard can make that step up.

"We have had boys who have done it previously, we have had a good record over the last five years of lads signing professional deals, Matty Palmer being a good example and there are lots of others to name and hopefully there will be some more.”
