"WE WILL NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE WORK HE DOES"

17 February 2016

LAST season’s player of the season Stuart Beavon has been receiving plaudits for his hard work this season.

He is already on six goals, just one goal behind his final 2014/15 goals tally but the striker is also on five assists – Albion’s top assister this season.

“He isn’t going to get rewards in terms of goals because he is so unselfish and the way he plays for the team,” said Nigel Clough.

He added: “We have got no problem with what at all because we recognise that and the other players do as well.

“It’s amazing how many people you speak to after the game who says ‘he makes a hell of a difference for you’.

“The other night Chesterfield and a few people commented ‘He works hard for you’.

“Even in the last five or ten minutes he was nicking balls of the centre halves, in our half and that’s another two or three attacks we don’t have to deal with.

“We will never underestimate the work he does.

“He reads the game very well and anticipates it very well.”

Nigel Clough played with the former Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov at Manchester City between 1996-1998 and admits Stuart Beavon is a similar type of player.

“I played with Paul Dickov at Manchester City and he is in that sort of vein.

“He was one that everyone said centre halves hate to play against.

“Although he is up there on his own, he still occupies two centre halves.”
