BENNETT IS IDEAL BACK UP FOR BEAVON - SAYS CLOUGH

21 January 2016

NIGEL Clough wants new loan signing Mason Bennett to be a ready back up for Stuart Beavon.

The Brewers manager says: “The way Stuart plays and how much he puts into each game it’s unlikely he’s going to play every minute. What we saw against Coventry was an ideal replacement so that if Stuart needs a rest within a game or can’t start a game, Mason can step in. Against Coventry he was a handful and did everything we hoped he would do. That was an ideal introduction for him.

“We have had relatively few games considering the time of year when they are usually packed in. We now have quite a few Saturdays and Tuesdays and that’s where we will need him.

“People can’t believe he’s only 19 as he made his debut so young.”

Clough believes Bennett can also learn a lot from Beavon.

“We said to him on Saturday, ‘You can see what Stuart Beavon has done for 75 minutes now do exactly the same for the last 15 minutes’. What Mason should do is watch Stuart on the pitch. There are very few strikers who can play that one up front role with supporting players. Stuart occupies centre halves and wins headers. Something any striker can learn from.”
