BREWERS BOSS PRAISES HIS "ORGANISED" BURTON ALBION

19 January 2016

BURTON Albion hold the record this season for the best defence in Sky Bet League One. Just 19 goals conceded in 25 games means the Brewers concede 0.76 goals per game.

Another clean sheet was awarded at the Ricoh Arena as the Brewers ran out 2-0 winners with goals from Stuart Beavon and Calum Butcher.

“It was well organised,” said Nigel Clough.

“We got our foot in when we needed to and stopped crosses.

“We gave too many free kicks away outside of the penalty area, they had three or four efforts but apart from that, it was well disciplined and it was good stuff.”

Clough added: “It was important to get the three points.

“Everyone is hot on our heels now, Wigan, Sheffield United, they are all going to be chasing us so it’s important we look after ourselves and keep winning.”

It was a real team performance and it was hard to pick out an individual for man of the match but Nigel Clough admitted the work rate of Stuart Beavon was rewarded with a goal, he first since September.

“I think Stuart Beavon stood out if there was any individual,” said Clough.

“He deserved the goal not only for today but for the last couple of games as well.

“I thought he worked tirelessly and he got hold of the ball for us.

“When you’re up there on your own it’s difficult against two experienced centre halves.”
