MANAGER PRAISES TEAM FOR ANOTHER SOLID PERFORMANCE

27 January 2016

NIGEL Clough has praised his team for securing another clean sheet and a vital three points at Peterborough.

After the 1-0 win at Peterborough the Albion boss said: “It was a cracking performance; as good a 1-0 away victory as you will get. We restricted them to very few opportunities. When you think they are free scoring and the way they play, we were very solid.”

Shane Cansdell-Sherriff shook off a groin injury to return to the starting line up and Robbie Weir returned to the holding midfield role after a two-game suspension.

Clough said: “Having Shane back in there helped. Antony O’Connor has played well but with Shane back that’s the back four that has kept the most clean sheets. Having Robbie Weir back as well always helps.

"The whole team worked hard defensively, starting with Stuart Beavon and even the wide men – it wasn’t a time when they were going to be taking on people and putting crosses in, it was about being solid and doing your job and they did it as well as anybody.

Tom Naylor grabbed the important goal in the third minute.

Clough said: “Tom’s playing as well as at any time in his career. We saw his energy, his ability to break things up and how he gets in the box. When you play like that you have to get the odd goal.”
