MASON BENNETT JOINS ON LOAN

15 January 2016

MASON Bennett has joined Burton Albion on a youth loan until the end of the season from Championship side Derby County.

19-year-old Bennett will link up with his former manager Nigel Clough at the Pirelli Stadium after working under him at Derby for several seasons.

Clough handed the young forward his full debut in a 2–0 defeat at Middlesbrough to become Derby's youngest ever first team player. Bennett also holds the record of Derby County's youngest goal scorer with a goal against Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup on 5 January 2013 at the age of 16 years and 174 days old.

He has made 28 appearances for Derby County’s first-team scoring one goal.

In August 2014, Bennett joined Bradford City on loan until January 15. He scored his first goal for the club seven days later, in a 3–1 win away to Crawley Town.

Mason has represented England at U16, U17 and U19 level racking up over 20 appearances in total scoring nine goals for his country.

Bennett said: “It’s a great opportunity for me to be here. The team are at the top of the league and hopefully we can keep pushing forward.

“I know the staff well here. They gave me my debut at 15 so hopefully I’ll have more success here with them.

“It must have been difficult for them to chuck a 15-year-old in from the start so I’m grateful for another opportunity at this club.”
