ON THE WHISTLE MATCH REPORT

26 January 2016

Three changes for the Brewers to the side that lost to Shrewsbury. In come Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, Lucas Akins and Robbie Weir for Anthony O'Connor, Nasser El Khayati and Callum Reilly.

GOAL: Just 3 minutes in, the Brewers took the lead! Stuart Beavon pinched the ball just inside the Posh half, ran to the edge of the box before playing it out wide to Mark Duffy who drove into the box, drilled it across to Tom Naylor who made no mistake from 3 yards! 0-1

The home side had a great chance to equalise on the 15 minute mark when Smith whipped a ball in from the right but the Albion skipper John Mousinho did incredibly well to head behind for a Posh corner, a corner in which was cleared with ease by the Brewers.

It was clear that Peterborough were very good at keeping possession but what they did with it was another question. Jon McLaughlin only had one save to make in the first half which was credit to the Albion defence.

How the lead wasn't doubled on the half hour mark is beyond belief. A string of Albion corners from either side couldn't find a way in, even when Mousinho had a shot blocked from point-blank range and a header cleared away.

Worry surrounded the ABAX Stadium as Toffolo and Butcher collided heads on 40 minutes, Toffolo didn't get back up until 45+5 and he left on a stretcher. He was replaced by Angol.

Mousinho again looked dangerous from a corner as he headed towards goal but Alnwick did ever so well to claw it away to his left.

HT: Peterborough United 0-1 Burton Albion

The home side came out brightly in the second half and it was thoem that had the first chance. Smith rifled a ball first time towards the Burton goal from 18 yards, it was an absolute sizzler but McLaughlin watched it just wide of his right post.

Timmy Thiele was given the final half hour of the match as he replaced Stuart Beavon who seemed to picked up a knock.

The Albion skipper John Mousinho wasn't ready to surrender the 1-0 lead with 10 minutes to go. Coulthirst recieved a diagonal ball from the right, he turned ready to shoot but Mousinho threw his body on the line to deny him.

Time ticked by and the Brewers looked comfortable at the ABAX Stadium. Lucas Akins recieved a ball on his chest some 30 yards out before trying an effort which was dipping but not enough to dip under the cross bar of Alnwick's goal.

One minute to go and Timmy Thiele had the ball in the net for the Brewers, only to be chalked off for offside, which from our view was a tad harsh.
