BURTON Albion manager Nigel Clough is prepared to play the waiting game to bolster his squad for the Championship season.
The Brewers have put in bids for two players, requests for seven loan players and looked at several more available on a free transfer but Clough knows it will take time to build his squad.
He said: “We are having to be patient this summer. We said we wouldn’t be top of anybody’s list. Those we do want are beyond us financially at the moment but if they don’t get fixed up they will move more towards us.
“It’s the same with the bids. At the start of the summer they want a lot more but we can’t pay that. We have made realistic offers and we have to be patient. If you are at Newcastle and are willing to pay 10 or 12 million then the money talks and you can get players in. It’s a somewhat different scenario here.
“We have put in requests in for seven loans, the majority from Premier League clubs, and we are waiting back for answers. We are getting positive noises but the clubs want to see the players pre-season and use them in their games.
“We can’t take all seven but we would like to take four or five of those and use the loans up.
“We have financial offers in for two more players and are talking to several players who are available on free transfers as well. Who we take out of that group depends on who we get on loan.”
