IRVINE EXCITED BY PROSPECT OF CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL

16 July 2016

NEW signing Jackson Irvine can't wait to start playing in The Championship for Burton Albion.

The midfielder who has been signed on a three-year-deal from Scottish Premier League Ross County said: "This is going to be so exciting playing in the Championship and I can't wait to test myself against this calibre of team. It's going to really difficult as all the teams have an abundance of talent but I firmly believe this club is more than capable of competing at this level and we can put our names on the map in The Championship."

Irvine has played most of his career in Scotland, the last two seasons at Ross County, the first on loan from Celtic, before signing a permanent deal last summer.

He describes himself as a "box-to-box" midfielder.

He says: "I like to play with plenty of energy and throw myself around a bit as well."

Irvine is also an Australian international who featured in May's friendly against England.

He said: "I have been fortunate to be involved in the Australian set up. I have four caps, most recently against England at the Stadium of Light and also against Greece in  Sydney. Hopefully I can cement that having take another step forward in my career and become more involved in the years to come."

Irvine has signed a three-year deal and is delighted to have committed his future to Burton Albion.

He says: "This club has taken massive strides forward in recent years and I'm massively excited to be part of a club that is growing so fast - being part of it for the next few years is going to be truly special."
