MANAGER'S VERDICT - QPR

26 July 2016

NIGEL Clough was pleased with a good work out and a stern test for his squad as they drew with QPR 1-1.

The Burton Albion manager said: "I thought we were a bit unlucky to go 1-0 down - it was a poor goal to concede from our point of view. Even 10 days before the season starts, if you do not defend set pieces properly you will end up 1-0 down.

"We are not too far of now though. We need to do a bit of sharpness work but you still are not really there until you play that first batch of games until the international break - you play seven games in 20 days then get a break just when you are getting going. But by then we should be in the full swing of things because whoever you play and whatever you do you will not recreate the intensity of the Championship in pre-season."

The only downside for the manager was an injury to Lee Williamson.

Clough said: "We had to put ice on his ankle but we just hope it is one of those that hurts like hell at first but then settles down a bit. We hope there is no serious damage."
