MANAGER'S VERDICT - STOKE

16 July 2016

NIGEL Clough was happy with both the work out and the progress being made by his squad after the 3-0 win over Stoke.

The Brewers boss said: "It's early days but I think we showed today that we had been back a week longer than Stoke, especially in the second half.

"We are happy with where we are, and the lads have worked extremely hard the last couple of weeks."

Clough was delighted that Chris O'Grady scored twice on his debut.

"When you are a striker, whether it's pre-season or not, it's great to get a goal at your first game. Chris has got a couple today and Jackson Irvine has settled in nicely, and that's part of the pre-season process of settling in new players."

"We identified last season that we had hardly anybody with Championship experience apart from Tom Naylor playing a dozen games at right back for Derby and Callum Reilly playing a bit for Birmingham. So it was important to get those kind of people in and although Jackson hasn't got experience in England he has been playing in the SPL. The others we have brought in are seasoned Championship players."
