BREWERS defender Ben Turner has spoken about the importance of the whole team defending as a unit, as they head into their first season in the Championship.
Turner who was recently brought to the Pirelli alongside fellow defender Kyle McFadzean said:
“Clean sheets are so important in this league, you always build from the back. Hoowever, you can have the best back four in the league but if everyone isn't contributing throughout the side you won't win anything.
“As a team and defenders it is vital that we gel quickly, we are getting to know each other on and off the pitch and that will only benefit us in the long run.
“Me, John Mousinho and Kyle played in a back three against QPR and we felt comfortable doing so. The three of us all have our own different strengths and a lot of experience.
“We were disappointed as a team to concede from a set-piece against QPR, so I am sure that is something that will be even more drilled into us in the next week or so on the training pitch.”
On a personal note, Turner is delighted how pre-season is going. Having struggled previously with injuries, he is hoping to stay fully fit for the Brewers: “I have struggled with injuries in the last few years, I’ve played four games in pre season and last year I only managed five in total so I am happy where I am at.”
